Facebook places and social networking

Posted in Social Networking on 26.08.10 by Merlyn

Places implications on social networking

Is there any private life left to enjoy? With facebook places it´s pretty difficult to keep your life “secret”.

Facebook places let´s you share with your friends the places you are at, and when you are somewhere that is interesting for you, you can share the experience and even the friends you are with.

Checking in to places let´s you find out which of your friends are around or you can share your location with friends and family.

Map search is a great tool to find places, define routes and plan your trip, know where a store or business is and you have some tools to do all this easier. Multimaps is one of them.

With Google maps you can explore the world at “street level”. Preview all the places you want to be for the next getaway.

While on the road, you can “see” where your favorite restaurant or shop is and how it looks like.

For business owners Google maps lets you show your site location, the environment, what amenities are available and relevant information about your business and landmarks you want to focus on.

Google maps navigation for android, made Google an important player in the GPS market and making it free was devastating for other GPS players, but a great advantage for Google.

From satellite view to street view, Google is hitting the market hard.

Google maps is working on android 2.0 devices but spreading to other mobile platforms.

For users, it´s great news. For competitors it´s a difficult bite to swallow.

Bing and Google are in the middle of a great battle to conquer user favor.

Bing locations and search are trying to take larger bites from Google´s leadership and Google is trying to find innovative ways to keep leadership.

The race for features is giving users the benefit of better services and innovative resources.

Bing´s gains are not huge, but the competition is not over yet.

Keyword search and Google analytics

Posted in Business on 24.08.10 by Merlyn

Keyword research and your site concept

As per Site Build It, the website theme should be: in demand, not too broad, excite you, return a higher ROI, be in sync with the available time. The website theme is defined by keywords.

Keywords help your visitors know what your site is about. When building your site you have to keep in mind that computers work based on words and numbers.

Internet marketing should be planned in such a way that you use the best keywords for your market and keyword research is a task you should take in consideration and give it the highest value possible.

Brian Clifton, wrote a book titled “Advanced web metrics with Google analytics” , which purpose is to help you follow the appropriate techniques for your site to be found for the search engine robots and finally give you the highest return value.

Axandra search engine newsletter outlined recently the fact that “Your website will only cost you money if your website visitors don´t become customers”.

Keywords are the basic power behind high rankings in the search engine and they will give value to your search engine optimization, SEO, process.

To get the most out of your website you have to build your site to create impact among your visitors to make them your customers.

The Google keyword tool is a very important tool to consider when you research your keywords to attract people to your site and Google analytics will help you to see what is relevant in your site and you use this information to make your site the traffic magnet you want it to be.

People search for services, products and general information. When people go to the search engines they use words.

Those words they use to define their searches, should be the words you use on your site to attract visitors and create compelling content to keep them in your site and eventually make them your customers.

The Bing yahoo! search alliance

Posted in Business on 19.08.10 by Merlyn

The Yahoo! Search and Bing alliance is rapidly taking momentum.

Since 2009, the alliance is getting closer to Bing being the runner up in the search engine contest.

As per Nielsen March 2010 statistics, Google search engine ranks first with 65.7% market share, Yahoo! Is second with 13.4% and Bing third with 12.2% which makes a combined market share of 25.6%.

As of October 2010, Bing is Yahoo! Search, which means that Microsoft market share jumps from 12.2% to 25.6% and Yahoo! Stops spending in search related items.

Now, the Bing algorithm is powering Yahoo! Search. The 10 years search and advertising deal is expected to take some chunks from the leader: Google.

The challenge to Yahoo and Bing search team is huge, as though they have to take important bites from the Google market share if they want to stay on the race.

Spatial search should be a real advantage for Bing. Spatial search is how they refer to talk about Bing maps: you can “explore cities at street level”, or use a “hotel finder” app.

Quality search results could be the tipping advantage, but as of now, there is no relevant change in user perception on quality search results.

Back in 2007, Microsoft invested 240 million dollars in Facebook. Now Facebook places uses Bing as the mapping service of choice, which is an advantage for the Yahoo! Microsoft alliance: Bing

Once the transition is over, Bing will power 5.2 billion searches per month. Advertisers will find an adCenter tab in the Yahoo search in their Yahoo! Search marketing account.

Enabling searchers to find relevant results faster provides more value for advertisers and better results for web publishers is a challenge for the Yahoo! And Microsoft alliance to build a competitive alternative in the search market with enough power for sustained development.

Reshaping the search industry is creating a new dynamics in this multibillion industry, that could bring interesting and positive results for publishers, advertiser and natural search user.

Let´s keep an eye on this process that hopefully will give us creative and interesting results.

You can make informed choices, faster, when you use Bing search results. Bing promises smart and organized search results.
